This channel is dedicated to hosting many episodes of The Computer Chronicles at the highest quality possible. If you'd like to request a specific episode to be uploaded, please send me a PM and I'll see what I can do.

💾 I still use my C64 💾
Oh my Gosh....How could I forget PARADOX and filemaker pro!..paradox was THE Database package back in the day. IF you knew Paradox there were jobs, jobs jobs and you got PAIddddddddd
I’m obsessed with learning more about Gary Kildall..May he be writing codes for the cosmos..ty.
Playing fast and loose with the term "online" help 😆
I have that plasma Toshiba, and T3200SX and T5200 too 🥰
That combover look tho
These stories give me the yen to appreciate the microcomputer more and more. The database program became my favorite business application, since I first tried Microsoft Access 2002 in the Microsoft Office XP Professional suite once I acquired my first microcomputer in February 2002. Anyway, Microsoft Word has been my springboard, because modern-day typewriting which is called keyboarding is my best skill for a very long time.
The NT kernel and architecture are great, and were very advanced. Win32 is another story though...
I remember that bird flying through the screen. It came as a pre-bundled gif with ASTOUND presentation Software. PowerPoint did not have that animation feature.
Exciting time to be alive.
Love the violet disks...
Love the "VERBIAGE".......lol..
Whoever was directing the camera-operators and cutting between cameras for this episode was not on the ball.
Got a pc in 1994 and loved that dial up modem sound. And man the Pippin...what a huge failure.
My friend says I am well-educated, I rely on these videose for basic info!
@3:02 "Feels odd but looks great" Apple 101
13:51 funny thing is, this 110pin connector that IBM guy showed looked more or less like the final EISA connector (98pin) than the „32bit extension“ the AST guy was showing earlier
JCD! #NoAgenda #InTheMorning !
goddammit, I love how the "additional stories" section of the broadcast is called Random Access Files (edit: and the Jingle Disk advertised at the end was also uploaded to youtube! video ID ZW0wYdEjr9Q)
I feel old watching this. I remember doing some work at the Intel fab in Livermore, CA where they were manufacturing the 386 chips. I was working for Varian Associates and Intel had some of their PVD machines in their production line. One cassette of 25 wafers was worth thousands of dollars so it was stressful work. There was no room for errors so when I turned the machine back over to Intel, it HAD to be perfect. Exciting times. Good times. I still have a couple of 386 computers, so I should dig them out and play some games. Just for old times sake.
Bill should be in jail for stealing
9:05 Why 4,029 colors? Why that instead of 4,096?
A low-end computer does not mean that it is an inferior model compared to the more expensive ones. A low-end computer may be used for performing one or only two application tasks. That is all what some users want. Not every computer operator or user needs a computer with big random accessed memory, many software programs, unless the operator plans to do heavy-duty business productivity. It seems as though the computer manufacturers were generous to make several computer models, instead of one specific computer for all users.
13:09 Anybody else seeing Ned Flanders here?
Fuck, I was 1 years old at this point. Now I feel old. Just think, kids that are born today with technology that wouldn’t have even seemed possible back then! It’s crazy how far tech has come!
*_It even has scrolling..._** OMG!*
I love this show ❤
I was a Novell Netware LAN expert installing software, hardware and training from 1988 to 1993, it was a very grateful experience. My favorite version: Netware SFT 2.15 👍
7:08 U don`t say ;)
Watching this video in 2024 with my HP Omen Transcend 14 / RTX 4070.
weird thing is the one that is still hardest thing to make your own PC is what hardware you want to use building the pc now is much much much easier back then, sometimes you don't even need screwdrivers (especially with tooless pc cases and parts)
I’m going with the sega Saturn , I am unsure the PlayStation will take off
A couple years after this episode aired I was a young kid enthused about 3D games and virtual reality. I really wish I had seen this episode Back Then very impressive stuff
I think this show would have been a lot better if Stewart Cheifet wasn't always rushing the guests.
7:35 This reminds me of when I wrote a program called The Algebra Tutor or TAT in the eighth or ninth grade. I was failing Algebra at the time, but I was able to design a program for the Commodore 64 that taught you Algebra and also quizzed you. I entered it in both the math and science fairs and my Algebra teacher actually passed me one semester even though I had a failing grade in the class.
14:06 WAWAWEWA
the way he pronounces WYSIWYG tough
26:23 If only @AT&T would have listened. They would have been Google.
I come across computer chronicles about a decade ago. I have probably gone through every episode at least 3 times. If i could have a dinner with any historical figure, Gary would be high on my list.
Hahaha, "Drag 'n Drop"
I'm guessing this aired mid-Desert Storm.
It's fun to watch them talk about selling these things to educational markets and regular households. The CD-ROM drives alone cost as much as a new car back then.
I love being able to go back and watch these every few years
They would be horrified by what data collection and politics have become in 2024.
That thinkpad is a beauty
'87 is the year my dad brought home a Mac SE. I wish I still had it. Great little system. We had a dot matrix printer with the paper with the perforated side feed parts. Fun times.
I wonder if, 35 years later, Jeff Burger finally realizes how many office drones' lives he's ruined with that music.
I wish that The Computer Chronicles would be alive and living today just as before.
The more The Computer Chronicles shows I watch, the more I want to keep my microcomputer, and not use anything else.👍
I am stunned at how much quality there was in this television series. Gary Kildall himself, all the stars that were featured here - amazing stuff.
